What are the benefits of taking your martial arts lessons?
Most students begin taking our classes either to get in shape or learn self-defense, buty there are many other benefits that bring value to our classes, including:
- Increased self-confidense and self-discipline
- Improved flexibility, coordinateion, balance, and endurance
- Improved mental clarity and concentration
- Lowered stress level
Do I need to be "in shape" to start?
Absolutely not! Martial arts is a great source of exercise for those who are interested in getting into shape. It can help you increase your strength, flexibility, and coordination. Our karate classes are also a great way to burn calories!
How old is too young / too old to start learning karate?
We have specialized classes for many age groups. Each of these classes is tailored to the learning style appropriate for the maturity level of the classes.
Our Taekwondo Tigers classes are tailored specifically for ages three to six. Classes are geared to effectively increase focus and listening skills for these younger children.
By the same token, our adult classes are geared towards mature individuals who have an interest in learning effective, practical self-defense. At the same time, we make sure you get a workout that increases your fitness level while still enjoying the experience. We have had students begin training with us as old as 60 years of age, and still go on to earn their black belts!
What age groups do you teach?
We have three different class programs, each designed specially for the apprpriate age group. Taekwondo Tigers is a class formatted specifically for preschool aged children three to six years old. Karate Kids classes run a curriculum for children aged six to twelve. Our Teen and Adult classes are designed for mature, focused martial artists of any skill level.
What are your martial arts classes usually like?
Each class is structured around the age and skill level of the particpants. Beginner classes focus on basic, core techniques and helping new students learn as smoothly as possible, as most students at this level have no previous training or experience. At the more advanced level, students will learn more of the finer points and details of the techniques, as well as moving on to more challenging movements and routines.
We balance the time in the classes between learning new material and refining techniques from previous classes. While we do pause as necessary to answer questions, we make sure to keep the pace going and provide a challenging but fun workout for all students.
Can I just sign up without doing the trial program?
You can, but we strongly encourage all new students to try our free trial class first. This ensures that our program is a good fit before signing up for regular classes.
Do you require sparring?
We do require sparring, but not until the intermediate level, approximately eight to ten months into a new student's training. When sparring, all students are required to wear protective equipment, and strict rules are enforced to maintain a high level of safety.
There are many benefits to sparring, including enhancing reflexes and helping students learn to move and react with the skills that they learn in the class. It is also a great cardiovascular workout!
How safe are your classes?
Our karate classes are very safe. Every class is supervised and taught by a qualified Black Belt instructor and everything is taught in a structured, controled environment
